The Elongation Affect - License Periods - Other Things
I got in a bit of an argument some time back about the license period for hunting and fishing licenses with somebody from our state agency. At the time our licenses were sold for a calendar year instead of from date of purchases. If you bought a license that year it was good through December 31st at midnight even if you bought in in August or September. It would cost you the same price for 8-9 months less use as somebody who bought their license on January 1st. This changed a few years back. Now your Arizona State hunting or fishing license is good for one year from the date of purchase.

COMMENTS STILL CONSIDERED UNTIL THE END OF MAY - CONTACT AzGFD NOW - LIVE BAIT CHANGES COMING - MORE RESTRICTIVE - YES EVEN FOR YUMA COUNTY
*** UPDATE MAY 18th 2023 ***
I just received a text message (May 18 2023) from Mike Sumner (our local region supervisor) regarding the current proposed rule changes. Comments received through the end of May will still be considered. Please keep it polite, and state your opinion/desire.
This is the comment I just sent to rulemaking@azgfd.gov :
Subject: Proposed Rule Changes Regarding Live Bait
“I believe it is better for all stakeholders if AzGFD makes a concerted and continuing effort to educate anglers on live bait rules rather than change the rules. Education is always an ongoing effort anyway. Yes I know it requires a continuing commitment on the part of the department, but we as stake holders make a continuing commitment every year when we buy our licenses which funds your department.”
Feel free to copy my message or write your own.
Comments received after the end of May will only be considered in the next rulemaking session.
Mike also indicated if you have his contact info you can send your comments directly to him.

Buying a Firearm From Out Of State
This is not a loophole to buying a gun otherwise prohibited to buy in your home state. Sorry. There may be some exceptions in your states law, but this isn’t one of them.

Mike Scherz - Gila River Gunworks
Just found this a little while ago. No more Gila River Gun Works.
Obituary
Michael Scherz
October 23, 1952 - November 28, 2021
Post a comment and tell us about your time with Mike. I used to hang around (and probably drive him bonkers) and watch him work in his first shop there on Fifth Avenue in Yuma. I kinda lost track of him when he moved to Idaho, but he kept Gila River Gunworks going.
Please share this with people who knew Mike. I didn’t find out until today.

Dropshot for Pan Fish
Drop shot is my favorite way to fish for panfish. I like the 1.5 inch curly tail grubs like these:
https://www.cncmolds … curly-tail-grub.html
I use two hooks about 8 inches apart and play with the tag length until I find the level and color they like best. You can catch some big bull bluegill and massive redear this way. I’ve found the panfish are more keyed by color, but generally smoke sparkle catches panfish, and watermelon catches bass. Matching a local hatch (red/pink snail eggs, white fry, etc) can really make the bite crazy. I’ve caught so many fish and had so much fun a using this rig I made a worm/grub just for a bigger hook when the bass are on them:

Please share this information with all your pan fishing friends
