Update October 22nd 2023 I just saw a notice that the area around Fortuna Pond has been posted “NO CAMPING.” This is a welcome change for locals who have often found it difficult or at least uncomfortable to get to the pond in the winter time. Winter visitors would often encircle the pond with RVs…
All of the road accesses to this pond are over POSTED private land. Some day in the future I’ll add some further information about the pond and the more difficult but legal way to access and fish the pond. Here is a hint. You Will have to walk in and maybe wade across the Gila…
From the bottom of Laguna Dam to Morelos Dam on the Arizona and Mexico border south of California. Most of this stretch divides Arizona and California. Includes places like: Bruce Church (Private) Backwater 33 (State trust land – primitive launch) Backwater 31 (Reservation) West Wetlands Park (Public launch) East Wetlands Park (oxbow or bypass channel)…
Pretty much any main canal, and any medium canal that holds water year around will have fish. What about the signs? In Yuma county I’ve had no real issues fishing the canals banks and the only people I have heard who had were doing dumb things. If you race down the canal bank like a maniac…
I first experienced Mittry Lake in the 1970s. We went for a swim and at one point something decided to bite me on the legs… whatever it was left ring like very mild red bite marks about an inch or so in diameter on my legs. The redness disappeared quickly, but it was a bit…
I have been told that the pond sets on three different lands. On the south shore the private property is occupied by an RV park. Don’t worry. There is easy public access to the pond on the North East side where there is a decent dirt boat ramp and a fishing dock. The pond would…
West Wetlands is a nice decent size park complex with play areas, picnic areas, and at the east end there is a fishing pond. It also provides one of the few improved boat launches on the lower river (Morelos Division) with boat trailer parking near the ramp. If you launch into the river at West Wetlands…
If you want a nicely manicured “park” pond with a paved liesurely strolling path this is the one for you. I’m not sure of the management of this pond, but it was originally stocked with sunfish for forage, and gets period winter stockings of trout. Being part of the Pacific Avenue Athletic Center its near sporting…
This is an established pond in the park in Somerton (not far from Yuma.) I really don’t know much about how its managed or what the facility is like. I lived in Somerton for a short time a few decades ago, but I don’t recall ever visiting the park. Drop me a message and tell…
If you go to the place called Betty’s Kitchen you probably won’t be fishing the area most locals will when they say they are going to Betty’s Kitchen. If you go to the place called Betty’s Kitchen you probably won’t be fishing the area most local will be when they say the are going to…
When most people who don’t live in Yuma say they are going to the river at Yuma or they are going to Martinez they mean they plan to spend some time on the Imperial Division of the Colorado River. Technically Imperial Reservoir, but its more river than reservoir. This section stretches from Imperial Dam to Palo…
