Sometimes a single job has significant tool costs. This is not the only tool bought just for this one job. This reamer will get used just one time for the job it was purchased for. I have another tool coming for this same job that cost as much as this reamer did. At least the…
Sorry I haven’t posted any fishing information in a while. I’ve been making molds, working in/on the shop, and even working on boats, but no fishing in over two weeks. Friday the air compressor went out in my shop. Start capacitor on the motor went bad. I ordered a new start capacitor for Saturday delivery,…
I can’t tell you exactly what it was that I made a mold of for him, but he was pretty happy to show me his success using it. (Not Local)
I have a few mold designs ready to cut, and I have a constant backlog of custom work, but I DO NOT have one of everything sitting on the shelf. In fact, except for my personal molds that are not for sale I don’t keep a lot of anything sitting on the shelf hoping somebody…

I made 3 previous version, and tweaked this one 3 times before cutting it. Maybe I’ll release this one. Maybe I won’t. I caught big fish on versions 1, 2, and 3 & won a couple local club tournaments with version 2 (when I still fished tournaments). Hopefully this will be the mold that I…
Flipping Was the Ticket Yesterday. Well for me anyway. I got 7 bites on the RFLT before switching to other baits. Amazingly I didn’t get a single bite on a Club-O. I never threw the Squareback Minnow even though its done well for me lately. I did stick two bass on a shop made polyurethane…

The first part of last week and that weekend I had a pretty nasty bug. I was only good for a half day of work at best. By Monday I started letting customers know anything that hadn’t already shipped just wasn’t going to get shipped until after Christmas. Maybe after New Years, but by Tuesday…
This is probably the number one size and style if you just have to feel a pull on your string. 1.5″ (1-1/2 inches) as molded, swims to over 2 inches traveling through the water. One mold will produce 22 baits in one shot. If you sell baits at 10 to the bag that’s two bags at…
For those who don’t know “sans,” means without. I’ve been working on all kinds of things, and I spent a week in Maui last month before Thanksgiving. Didn’t do any fishing, but I did visit a couple tackle shops and give away some CNC Molds N Stuff Company swag. Hats, stickers, etc. While I was…

I’ve always struggled as a welder, but eventually I get it most times. One thing I do when it has to work the first time is cut some stock piece the same size and make a few practices welds before welding the work piece. I did this a lot learning to MIG weld aluminum. It…
I managed to get out a few days ago on a weekday afternoon and I missed every strike I got but one. It was on a Kicker Buzz Frog. Greg G who was gracious enough to invite me out did okay. I think he caught at least half a dozen including a couple around three…

The Internet is absolutely what makes many small maker businesses possible. Without it, I’d probably never have gotten into mold making, and even if I had I’d be relegated to advertising in the classifieds in the back of trade and hobby magazines.I do trade worldwide because of the Internet. I have customers from Australia and…
UPDATE 6/8/25: I see I do not have the little 1.5 mold currently listed on the CNC Molds N Stuff website. I’ll get that fixed soon. We hit the water around 5:30 or 6:00 and after launching The Cat in that little backwater we headed down the way a bit. Was mostly throwing Club-Os. I…

If Do-It Fishing has what you want, you should buy it from them. I don’t mean that angrily or sarcastically. I mean it in all seriousness as somebody who wants your money but won’t lie to you or give you bad advice to get it. Sometimes I have people contact me wanting me to make…
Nah, not really. There is no secret forum. I don’t know if I’ll ever run a fishing forum again of my own. I did however rekindle Tackle Maker. Tackle Maker is about making fishing tackle. There is a fishing chat section as an after thought. There is even a Yuma Area Adventures sub section. www.tacklemaker.info…
A while back I made an attempt at a soft plastic hollow body frog. That dream is not dead, but I found the legs kicked just as well as the legs of the Curly Buzz Frog. They had an issue of tangling once in a while, but I knew the solution. The thing is I…
Some years back one of the bass federations (I don’t recall which one) had their western states regional final here on the Colorado River. It was quite the thing for several months. One fellow drove hundreds of miles for several months to come fish our pro am. Others hired airplanes to fly the river, and…
Hit one of my favorite backwaters yesterday with one of my fishing buddies. I caught all my fish on the Square Back Minnow. I lost three pretty quickly before I realized the drag was a little loose and preventing me from getting a good hookset. I felt a few bites later that were gone by…

The buttress thread spiral bait keeper has an edge radius of only 1/64th of an inch to get that “sharp” edge I think it would need to work. As a result that whole feature would need to be finished with at max a 1/32 ball nose end mill. The time to finish would be fairly…

If you are copying somebody else work, you are still copying somebody else’s work. My company policy is I will not knowingly make a copy of somebody else’s non-generic current…
Its going to get used for roughing blanks, but its going to take a lot of work to retrofit it to a modern control before I can use it. Probably the first chore will be getting it off the trailer, and onto a pallet to move it around the shop. VIDEO: The Curly Buzz Frog…
Some people underestimate or ignore the risks associated with using lead and working with it to make various things. Others overreact with fear mongering and scare tactics in an attempt to intimidate people into total avoidance. The truth is somewhere in between, and the best approach is always education and personal choice. I’ve assembled a…
