Gemini AI is Retarded
Within a couple days of the forced rollout of Gemini AI for Android Auto I experienced a driving/navigation hallucination/malfunction by Gemini that made it clear for me it was untenable. As soon as I figured out how I switched everything back to the Google Assistant that while much more limited rarely made mistakes like that. Now I see Google is murdering the Google Assistant on September 4th 2026. They sent out a notification, and will be shutting down the server side access. I’m about ready to see if I can buy a TomTom.
I considered subscribing to the Ford interface, but it seems that is also controlled by Gemini AI, and Gemini AI is making inroads into Apple and may affect Apple CarPlay.

Is there a long term solution.
Yeah, I know, I know, some people will say, “Well I never had a problem.” Good for you. Others will try to say some how I’m to blame. Maybe. So, tell me how to fix it then. Some apologists will say what did I expect or I expected to much… the thing is before Gemini AI was forced on us it just worked, and it worked after I rolled back my systems to Google Assistant it work. Now as of September 4th I won’t be able to trust it. Getting in a screaming match with an AI or LLM if you prefer is not a way to reduce distracted driving. Pulling over to the side of the road to manually enter data with my thumbs is an option, but I could do that before integrated systems.
I had been using Android Auto across 3 different vehicles, but now I feel like I may be forced to abandon it. I would say, “and just use Google Maps directly,” but it seems like Gemini Ai will soon be managing that direct interface as well.

I am not ready for the flaming I’ll likely get for making this post, but I need stuff that works.
Note: I did report this to NHTSA, but I doubt they care. They will likely class it as somebody whining about their stereo instead of the safety issue I feel it is.
