Pepsi Loyalty? NO! SHASTA!

A long time ago I was a Coke drinker.  Growing up the soda carriers used to give me a six pack every week to make sure all the return bottles were organized and crated neatly for pickup.  The Coke driver always made sure I got my six pack, but the Pepsi driver often had an excuse.  I became a loyal Coke drinker.

Some years later I was given the task of making sure we had sodas at an MDA benefit put on by my local Harley Owners Group.  I was told to just call Pepsi, but I ran across one of the old Coke driver’s, now a manager, I knew and asked if he wanted to sponsor the event and get the PR instead of Pepsi.  He was gungho, but when it started getting close he ghosted me.  I called, tried to talk to somebody else, asked for a return call, nothing.

With only a few days I was about ready to take a few hundred dollars of my own money and go to the grocery store when I decided to give Pepsi a call.  I started pouring out my problems, and the receptionist said, “Whoa, hold on.  What do you need.”  I gave an estimate of the number of people who would be there and the number I thought might be drinking soda, and she said, “Come by in the morning and pickup up what you need. We will have it ready.”  The automatic community support was so baked in the receptionist had the authority to take care of me.  I didn’t even meet or know any of the managers at the local Pepsi warehouse until years later.  Needless to say I became a loyal Pepsi customer.

I have pretty much quit drinking sugary beverages, but I still like a cola.  The problem is aspartame goes bad around here in the summer time.  Periodically some diet colas were made with Splenda, but as far as I can tell none of the mainstream ones are today.  Shasta Cola is.

There is only one place in town that stocks Diet Shast Cola in 12 packs (by the case).  Smart & Final.  So, now I make a periodic stop over at Smart & Final for a couple cases of Shasta Diet Cola.

I am no less loyal to Pepsi, but I can’t stand the taste of aspartame that has broken down from the heat in the Southwest Desert.  If Pepsi starts making a diet cola sweetened with Splenda again let me know.  I’ll be there.
