Does Color REALLY Matter

One person told me. “Color theory is disproven. FACT.” To them the idea that color made any difference was superstitious fiction. Before I go on to explain what I think they said and why I agree or disagree with their observations let me just say this. I think color does make a difference… [Read more…]

The Origins of the Square Back Minnow (I almost didn’t make the 5 inch Club-O)

Quite a few years ago there was a big federation tournament here on the river. Stanley asked me to show one of their pro staffers around the area. In exchange they sent me two large boxes of baits and “stuff” to give away at the Pro/Am tournaments I used to run. I met up with Joey Nania and his fishing team member/partner/buddy and we headed out. It became apparent very quickly he was ON a river wide bite on a [Read more…]

Bob’s Tips For Anglers #0 - Don’t Let Other People Measure You

This should be the ultimate rule for every thing. Not just fishing. Tournaments. Boats. Life. Everything.

RULE ZERO

You should measure yourself against yourself if you need to measure at all.

If you have a boat and you are happy with it before somebody else comes along to tell you how their boat is better. Its a good boat and it meets your measure.

If you go out and have a good time catching dinks or you are thrilled to catch a single decent fish you measure up just fine.

If your motorcycle makes you purse your lips so bugs don’t get stuck in your teeth if you let yourself smile its perfect.

… and remember if you measure others and impact their happiness by your arbitrary measure it doesn’t make you any better. It makes you small. Yes. I am aware of the irony of that statement.
