I was just on the phone with one of our local AzGFD guys. Its seems there are proposed rules changes for live bait to reduce the number of species that can be transported (bought from a licensed dealer), and possibly eliminate the crayfish exemption for Yuma County. The public comment period is expected to begin in March or April.

Self caught legal bait species being able to be “used where caught” is expected to continue to be allowed at this point.

If / When I become aware of the public comment period I’ll post information here. Also, keep an eye out on the AzGFD website for a notice.

Does Color REALLY Matter

One person told me. “Color theory is disproven. FACT.” To them the idea that color made any difference was superstitious fiction. Before I go on to explain what I think they said and why I agree or disagree with their observations let me just say this. I think color does make a difference… [Read more…]

The Origins of the Square Back Minnow (I almost didn’t make the 5 inch Club-O)

Quite a few years ago there was a big federation tournament here on the river. Stanley asked me to show one of their pro staffers around the area. In exchange they sent me two large boxes of baits and “stuff” to give away at the Pro/Am tournaments I used to run. I met up with Joey Nania and his fishing team member/partner/buddy and we headed out. It became apparent very quickly he was ON a river wide bite on a [Read more…]

What The Heck Is A Stick Worm

What is a stick worm really? Plenty of angler’s will say they are all Senkos, but they aren’t. A Senko(tm) is a trade name owned by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. It is perhaps the most famous stick worm out there, and I certainly fished with them years ago. I don’t fish with them anymore because I make my own and I catch fish with them. Lots of fish. If I had to pick only one bait this might be it.

Bob’s Tips For Anglers #0 - Don’t Let Other People Measure You

This should be the ultimate rule for every thing. Not just fishing. Tournaments. Boats. Life. Everything.

You should measure yourself against yourself if you need to measure at all.

If you have a boat and you are happy with it before somebody else comes along to tell you how their boat is better. Its a good boat and it meets your measure.

If you go out and have a good time catching dinks or you are thrilled to catch a single decent fish you measure up just fine.

If your motorcycle makes you purse your lips so bugs don’t get stuck in your teeth if you let yourself smile its perfect.

… and remember if you measure others and impact their happiness by your arbitrary measure it doesn’t make you any better. It makes you small. Yes. I am aware of the irony of that statement.
