How'd the Pro-Am go?

Postby Greg G » Mon Feb 01, 2010 5:49 pm

How many anglers came out to play? What was the winning weight? Is the water real murky? Inquiring minds want to know!

Not bad, lots of boats, low water, 15 transoms ripped out on sandbars, 27 boats stuck hard, 145 anglers suffering from dehydrations, and nobody caught any fish. Overall pretty good.

Give or take...

It was pretty good. Had one guy that didn't sound like he was happy about something he won at the BBQ, and one minor controversy over specific culling of fish rules wording. Nothing that affected the results.

Every team weighed fish. Water was the second lowest I have seen it on the river. Fish were moving, but bites were kind of hard come by. Water was stained, but had cleared since rain levels. Some backwaters were pretty clear.

Cool, 19 boats is a great turnout!! And 15lbs is a good bag for this time of year. Thanks for the info and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the water comes back up for this weekend.

Controversy over culling? LOL. I heard the big controversy is they don't take orders at the grill even a couple minutes after five on Sunday. ---:) Even if they have a dozen burgers on the grill, and just dumped another bag of fries in the frier. ---:) Makes you feel like all your efforts were appreciated doesn't it.

I keep telling you that you should cancel the Pro/Am, pocket the money, shut down this website, and just go fishing. Nobody here is sharing anything you don't already know, and your nonboaters are all pissed that they aren't getting to fish with Shaw Grigsby, Bill Dance, and Dean Rojas.

I bet if you spent as much time just fishing as you spend helping others become better fishermen you could go out there and kick Billy Skinner's, Jimi Waits', Kelly Leigh's, John Turners, and the Lutes' collective butts on the water.

Of course one must understand that fishing is a pass time upon which success is not predicated purely on numbers and perfection of performance. An angler usually would like to catch fish, but often one must fish when one can rather than castrate that experience from one's life if they can't always fish at the perfect time or in the perfect place. Unlike the opinion of some, fishing is to be experienced in its entirety, and any bit of gear available and time spent no matter how many or how few fish are caught can be rewarding. A true challenge is not being able to catch fish when fishing is good, but rather to be able to catch fish whenever you have the opportunity to go fishing.

Greg, I heard that you should expect even lower water, and maybe rain.

FJ... I have nothing to say to that. Maybe later.

fj, your not really a giving caring guy are you? from what i see is that the pro am is "is a fishing tournament club that pairs anglers with boats and anglers without boats to fish together as a team against other teams. Pairing is by random drawing only. It is a great opportunity to fish with new people and learn new tactics on the Colorado River and Mittry Lake. It is a lot of fun," so saying that pretty much gets people fishing, learning and spreads the word about it. ya im pretty sure bob hears greef about stuff you stated but most stuff these days you cant do anything with out greef about something. if they dont like it then they dont have to fish. from what i see bob is a great guy for doing this. ya he can do what you said but why? what does he accomplish doing that? ya he gets to fish more and beat good people, but what after that? that chain goes on and on. he will have another person to beat. but here its a chain that goes on and on also. he meets new people and gets new people out on the water and shows them the joy of fishing.

CJ, man, you gotta learn to read FJ's posts witha liberal serving of sarcasim. He is actually saying pretty much the same thing you are, just in his pessimistic and sarcastic way of doing things. For as much crap as he deals out, FJ is actually sympathetic towards most of Bob's endeavors. Most of the time he is playing Devil's advocate but try to the sarcasim in which he does it and maybe you'll see that he's not quite as much of a trouble maker as people make him out to be, even if HE wants to be seen that way sometimes...

Somebody finally read my signature line besides your favorite former contributor. Smart guy, even if you can't spell sarcasm.

Well, I was already prepared for rain based on the forecast so I guess I'll have to be prepared for low water also.

Bring a push pole, a shovel, a come-a-long, and a dead man, and 600' of rope.
