Canal Fishing in San Luis AZ (W/P)

Postby elsospechas » Wed Feb 03, 2010 4:46 pm

hey guys! well since new years I decide to become a bass addict and well I am learning a few new things and tricks, this past month i have read alot info about bass that i am going crazy at this point LOL (-ch-) and have practice alot of diferent styles to. At first i didnt believe that rods, reels, and styles really matter, but I was wrong I decide to take my fishing to the next level so I went to wal mart and got a shakespear baitcaster and a Abu Garcia Rod (about $90 dlls including a 12 lb line) and I have to say that baitcasters are hard to learnnr but are the best to have. Today I land my new personal best, a 3 or 4 lb bass with a crank bait fishing the canal/river sides and lost a big one with "Wacky Worming". All I got to say is Thank You All for this great forum and for sharing your fishing story's!

Kind of looks like a walleye to me although is hard to tell. They have teeth and I don't really see any in the pic.

Looks like a bass to me. Was probably injured as a bassling and managed to survive.

A lot of agricultural run-off in those canals. That looks like one sick bass! I remember about a decade ago when some guy drove his car into one of those canals and the rescuers garbed up in chemical hazard suits before going into the water to look for bodies/survivers.
A day on the river just drifting and pitching, canoe style... could there be a better way.

Biggest Bass - How I Caught It: 24" bass, caught near the Laguna Dam one afternoon in Spring. Didn't have a weight scale, but it was around 9-10 pounds. Caught it on a spinning rod and reel, with a Panther Martin swim bait.

well heck, car in canal. gas, oil, ect. i'd want a suit too. but correct me if wrong, but don't those suits leak in water? hmmm? maybe not? but don't think i'd get in canals in one and i dove for yrs. probably have to use 40 lbs of weight to stay down.

THAT WATER DEFINITELY ISN'T GOOD FOR SWIMMING.....THAT'S WHY I JOKED ABOUT THE FISH HAVING TWO HEADS OR TAILS....
